I’m sat down at home in Bristol watching cnet’s live stream of Samsung’s unpacked I can see all the monitors and handsets glowing in the dark as Samsung lights up the world with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge visual intro demonstration, reveal and unveiling. After this initial tease and first few glimpses of the S6 and S6 edge Jk Shin appears and address the watching crowd he professes his first language is engineering. He touts the display and the camera’s as being the best in the world. He now touches on Samsung Pay and the safety of it’s users plus the big names in banking like MasterCard and Visa amongst many others signing up to work with Samsung Pay.
From banking to wireless charging! Next we are told both the new Samsung Galaxies integrate wireless charging. This is something Samsung are calling ‘Relentless innovation’ the innovative steps they take to bring technology we think of future technology to the working present. For Samsung, their new slogan for this release, is ‘Next Is Now’ the wireless charging works with both PMA & WPC wireless charging but negates the Qi charging used by Lumia and Nexus phones.
The metallic build of the SGS6 and edge is 50% stronger then any of its competitors, it also rocks the lastest Gorilla Glass 4. Altogether this makes the SGS6 and edge fantastically powerful and robust, innovative sleek handsets. The screen has an increased resolution at 2560 x 1440 offering 577 pixels per inch with the ability for the screen to increase brightness by a staggering 20% for battling any sun glare!
However its not all wonderful! Some people myself amount them will be disappointed that both new phones are no longer waterproof and don’t have an expandable memory card slots but do come in 32/64/128GB models to make up for it. Also this time round at MWC as rumours previously reported Samsung have ditched Qualcomm and the Snapdragon 810 for their latest flagships in favour for their own home built 64 Bit Exynos 7420 1.5 GHz octa-core processor. Samsung claim this processor will be more energy efficient.
The edge also has its own aesthetically pleasing beautiful interactive workable edge which works similar to its earlier concept cousin the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. Use it to colour coordinate your contacts when they call so you’ll know who it is by the glowing edge of the phone. Natrually the edge works as a notification panel too! The front camera of the S6 and edge both have been upgraded to support 5MP while the standard rear primary still stays at 16MP. Both handsets sport DDR4 RAM as previously reported which is 80% faster then your ordinary RAM!
In regards to the battery it’s all new and quite surprising. The Samsung Galaxy S6 only takes ten minutes to charge four hours and charges 50% battery within half an hour! Which sounds pretty cool! Paraphrasing Samsung It’s also the first time they have been confident enough to feature an in built battery! The SGS6 an S6 edge both have wireless charging. This further statement builds confidence in the battery for the consumer. The Samung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge are due to be released on April the 10th in twenty different countries! Prices have leaked out at €699 for the 32GB model €799 for the 64GB variant and €899 for the 128GB model. The SGS6 edge will cost a little extra €849 for the 32GB model and the 64GB and 128GB versions are expected to sell at €949 and €1049 outright! This seems like a lot to pay for the process of innovation, Will you be ordering one?
