With a minor surprise annoucnement the Sony Xperia Z3 + was confidently announced by Sony this week as their latest flagship model for 2015. Known as the Sony Xperia Z4 souly in Japan and only as the Sony Xperia Z3+ the world over! The said Z3+ as you’d expect from Sony and their comfortable predictability (in looks and design at least) isn’t very different from their already appealing, monolithic and minimalistic yet almost identical premium waterproof range.

Design

The Sony Xperia Z3+ will be thinner then the Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact at 6.9mm thick and on par with the iPhone 6 for thin finness. The front camera has been upgraded to 5MP 25mm wide angle lens for selfies. The device stays at 5.2 inches with the same 1080p a Triluminous IPS touch screen of latter modles. Other slight design changes are evident with the micro USB now located at the bottom of the phone, thankfully and finally the USB now appears capless similar to the Z4 tablet whist retaining it’s dust and waterproof iP65-68 standard. Which means you won’t ever be bothered and reminded about closing the watertight flaps ever again! The speakers also have been stylised on the bottom grill of the phone reminiscent of the Sony Xperia Z2. The Z3+ plus comes coloured with friendly accepted shades of black, white, copper and aqua green.

Specs

In terms of specs the Z3+ has also improved enough to warrant it’s + status with the Snapdragon Octo-Core 810 processor and 32GB of internal storage along with a MicroSD slot for up too128GB of extra space. The device still has the same 3GB of RAM thrown in to boot! That said Qualcomm’s finest should provide a smooth, balanced and competitive premium proformence all round. The battery has been reduced from 3100mah to 2100mah however Sony does have an notorious record when it comes to their power saving mode, I have the Sony Xperia Z2 myself as my personel phone and get through on average two days to a day and a half of heavy usage before recharging. Sony state the Z3+ will be capable of the exact same feat. On top of this there is a quick-charge function which will recharge the Z3+ 60% in thirty minutes, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S6 quick charge function. The device will be running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) from out of the box. All said and done the Z3+ isn’t a great giant leap for Sony yet it’s confident stride in the right direction with hardware improvements, waterproofing user enchancement, traditional SD extra ‘external’ storage space and double the internal memory with only 16GB which again was available on the Z3.

The Sony Xperia Z3+ will be available shorty in June (along with the Sony Xperia Aqua M4) I’d recommend you get your hands on it PAYG to save some money in the long run or on contract if you’d prefer to pay by credit. The RRP stands at £549. I’ve yet to meet anyone disappointed with any Xperia device featuring from the Z2 upwards and considering the little difference in variation the Z3 or even with the Z2 it might be worthwhile getting your hands on one of these latter devices!
